Bringing RISEN to the Screen with Producer Rich Peluso

RISEN is the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection and the weeks that followed, as seen through the eyes of an unbelieving Clavius (Joseph Fiennes), a high-ranking Roman Military Tribune. Clavius and his aide Lucius (Tom Felton) are instructed by Pontius Pilate to oversee the execution of Jesus of Nazareth, and to ensure his radical followers don’t steal the body and claim resurrection. Despite the tomb’s protection by Roman guards, the body goes missing within days. Clavius is charged to locate the missing body in order to prevent an imminent uprising in Jerusalem.

Only by finding the remains of Jesus can they disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah, allowing Rome to retain control of Judea. However, along Clavius’ mission, his doubts of such a supernatural occurrence begin to fade away as he encounters the Apostles and other followers while piecing together the mysterious events that unfolded after the Crucifixion.

I recently had the opportunity to speak with one of the producers of the film, Rich Peluso.

Rich is the Senior Vice President of AFFIRM Films, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment focused on the development, production, acquisition and marketing of faith-based and inspirational films. Rich reports to Steve Bersch, President of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.

He works with writers, directors and independent producers at various stages of production from concept and script, through production and completion, to produce and distribute quality entertainment that inspires, uplifts, challenges and captivates. Recent films he has worked on include War Room, Heaven is For Real, Soul Surfer, Courageous, and others.

Rich and I talked about the journey of bringing RISEN to the screen, the story and the casting of the film, why you should see it and how you can get involved.

Carl Barnhill has served on staff at some of the largest churches and organizations in the country. He served as Media Director at Precept Ministries International, directing the television and radio program Precepts for Life with Kay Arthur, broadcasted to over 98 million homes around the world. He served as Video Production Director at Pinelake Church in Brandon, MS, where he produced media content for four campuses, as well as led volunteer teams.

He most recently served as Video Coordinator for Newspring Church in South Carolina. Newspring has 10 campuses across the state with a weekly attendance of over 35,000. At one campus alone, the number of consistent volunteers serving in media production tripled, under his leadership.
