God’s Not Dead 2: In Theaters Today

The movie GOD’S NOT DEAD 2 hits theaters today.

The follow-up to the Pure Flix film GOD’S NOT DEAD, this sequel takes audiences back to the Arkansas setting of the original, home to Martin Luther King Jr. High School, where beloved teacher of the year Grace Wesley (played by fan favorite Melissa Joan Hart) helps students understand and enjoy history. Grace’s love of teaching, her love of life, and her love of people all come from the same place: her love of Christ. So when Brooke (The Goldberg’s Hayley Orrantia), a hurting student grieving the loss of her brother, finds Grace at a coffee shop, their conversation naturally leads to Grace sharing with Brooke the hope she finds in Christ.

However, when Brooke asks an honest question about Jesus during a lesson Grace is teaching about Dr. King and Gandhi, Grace’s answer lands her in big trouble – almost before she finishes giving her reasoned response. With the principal and superintendent teaming up with a zealous civil liberties group represented by an attorney with no love lost for God, Grace faces an epic court case, with the help of a sympathetic and charismatic defense lawyer (Jesse Metcalfe), that could cost her the career she had always dreamed of and expel God from the classroom once and for all.

The film is the sequel to GOD’S NOT DEAD, the highest-grossing independent faith film of 2014, which took in more than $60 million at the box office.

It moves the action from the college setting of the first film to the public square, where high school teacher Grace Wesley (Melissa Joan Hart) is sued after answering a student’s question about Jesus – and a civil liberties group with an agenda looks to make an example of her in its quest to remove God from public discourse.

Director Harold Cronk, who also helmed the original GOD’S NOT DEAD, said he hopes his new movie shows Christians how to stand boldly and effectively for their faith.

The film includes an all-star cast including Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Melissa & Joey), Jesse Metcalfe (Dallas), David A. R. White (God’s Not Dead), Hayley Orrantia, Ernie Hudson, Pat Boone, Ray Wise and others.

I had the opportunity to see a preview screening of the film at NRB in Nashville a few months ago. I thought it was good – the acting was great, the story was good, the production value was top-notch.

This film is perfect to gather your volunteer team to go see together. We must support faith-based films like these in the theaters so that more of them are made to this level of production quality.
