Lavender Hair – How Christian Actress Victoria Jackson beat Breast Cancer

I’ve met and talked with former SNL cast member Victoria Jackson a few times over the last few years. Mainly at the National Religious Broadcasters convention. The last time we saw each other was at a dinner where we sat at the same table with 2 Israeli’s, a purple haired woman and Jesus. Let me explain.

At NRB there are dozens of mini-events, dinners, workshops, and sessions. The week ends with a Closing Gala with thousands of people sitting at round tables. There are a few reserved tables close to the stage, but the seating is open to the general attendees. Every year in the Exhibition Hall of NRB, there is an actor with Jesus like features and long hair that dresses in Biblical garb as Jesus for a booth promoting trips to Israel. The actor, in full garb was seated with me at the dinner. This past year, I happened to land at a table with Victoria on one side and Jesus and I on the other, with some interesting people in between.

We didn’t really get to chat much that evening, but she was gracious enough to return for an audio interview by phone to catch us up on her life the last couple of years. If you’ve been an avid listener or reader of the blog, you’ll know Victoria was our special guest for our 50th Podcast – We spent over an hour walking through her life and career, her days as a stand-up comedian on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, her time as a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live, her roles in film opposite such actors as Dustin Hoffman, Sean Connery, Matthew Broderick and Lea Thompson.

In this second interview, Victoria shares with me how Jesus was her comfort during her battle with breast cancer which also led to her penning a new devotional book for women called “Lavender Hair.”
