The Ark Encounter with Mark Looy

When leading our volunteer teams, its fun to let our volunteers know about things that will strengthen and grow their faith. Whether that be devotionals, bible studies, events, or even attractions.

This year at the National Religious Broadcaster’s convention, I was introduced to a new exhibit being built by Answers in Genesis, a ministry dedicated to bringing the truth of God’s Word to people through science and other methods. They currently have a Creation Museum located in Petersburg, KY that brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and placing them in familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers. The Museum is a state-of-the-art 75,000 square foot facility.

The exhibit I was introduced to was the Ark Encounter – a full-scale Noah’s Ark attraction just 45 minutes from the Creation Museum located in Williamstown, KY near Cincinnati, OH. It is a one-of-a-kind, historically themed attraction. In an entertaining, educational, and immersive way, it presents a number of historical events centered on Noah’s Ark as recorded in the Bible. As the largest timber-frame structure in the US, the 510-foot-long full-size Ark is designed to be family-oriented, historically authentic, and environmentally friendly. Additional phases will be added over the years. The attraction opens this summer on July 7th, with a massive opening with the Ark welcoming the public for 40 Days and 40 Nights before moving to daytime only hours in August.

This is a really impressive attraction that would be great to share with your volunteer teams.

I recently had the opportunity to speak with one of the co-founders of Answers in Gensis, their Chief Communications Officer, Mark Looy.

Mark and I talked about their ministry, and all about the Ark Encounter – how big it is, when it opens, how people can plan a trip to the area, what audiences will experience and more.
