Building Experiences with Jason Roy (Lead Singer of Building429)
Since the release Building429’s debut album in 2000, Jason Roy, Michael Anderson, Jesse Garcia, and Aaron Branch have tirelessly and passionately encouraged the faith community with their music with such hits as “Where I Belong” and “We Won’t Be Shaken.”
In fact, their songs have also reached the peak of the radio charts. They held the No. 1 spot with “We Won’t Be Shaken” on Billboard’s Hot AC/CHR chart and AC Indicator for multiple weeks, eventually resulting in a nomination for the band at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Previous to that, “Where I Belong” (from 2011’s Listen To The Sound) became one of the longest No. 1 singles in Billboard history of Billboard’s Christian charts with a whopping 15 weeks at the top. “Where I Belong” went on to be named 2012 Christian Song of the Year and recognized as BMI’s 2013 Song of the Year.
The guys have been doing ministry together for more than 15 years. They created countless concert experiences, produced multiple tours, and been serving thousands of fans for years.
They are fully entrenched in the areas of audio, video, lighting and other media production elements as they work for months producing shows for audiences around the world.
I caught up with Jason Roy, Lead Singer of the band to talk about their process of creating elements for their shows, how they rehearse, how they work with their production team, some of the struggles they face on tour, and more.
We can learn a lot from guys like Jason how to create powerful experiences where people meet Jesus and grow in their relationship with Him.

Carl Barnhill has served on staff at some of the largest churches and organizations in the country. He served as Media Director at Precept Ministries International, directing the television and radio program Precepts for Life with Kay Arthur, broadcasted to over 98 million homes around the world. He served as Video Production Director at Pinelake Church in Brandon, MS, where he produced media content for four campuses, as well as led volunteer teams.
He most recently served as Video Coordinator for Newspring Church in South Carolina. Newspring has 10 campuses across the state with a weekly attendance of over 35,000. At one campus alone, the number of consistent volunteers serving in media production tripled, under his leadership.
He currently serves as Creative Director and Owner of [twelve:thirty]media, a company that serves churches and ministries all over the world through motion graphics content and church media coaching.
